Anna Calvin is a freethinking, independent flapper, trying to find her true place and purpose in the world. She is shunned from her strict Episcopal Protestant parents from their home in Garden City on Long Island in the summer of 1926. She finds herself living independently in the tenements of Manhattan. As she begins to navigate through her newfound independence and life finding new friendships with her new neighbor Dena and love with her new boyfriend Noah, she begins experiencing bizarre nightmares, which leave her breathless.Every night, Anna Calvin no longer lives as Anna Calvin, an independent young adult flapper, but in the body of a young Jewish girl named Chana living in a strange and different world.
